David BonnettVisiting Professor of Architecture – Oxford Brookes University 2002
Research Degree Ph.D – Oxford Brookes University 1994
BA, B.Arch. – University of Newcastle upon Tyne 1976

During fourteen years in local authority David Bonnett pioneered many aspects of accessible design, acted as advisor on the implementation of Access standards and contributed to an innovative design guide on the subject at the time. In 1994 David completed his Research Degree (Ph.D) on ‘Design Effectiveness for People with Severe Disabilities’. This, as well as his personal knowledge of disability, has made David a leading figure on the subject.

David Bonnett Architects was established in 1994 in response to the demand for his particular experience and skills as Architect-Access Consultant. Following expansion, the practice was reformed as David Bonnett Associates in 2001.

Together with heading the practice David is frequently invited to lecture, ranging from informal discussions and seminars to national and international design presentations and conferences. He is also Visiting Lecturer to the University of Reading and Visiting Professor to the Department of Architecture, Oxford Brookes University.

He has published many articles and papers on inclusive architectural design and is an active member of several national committees with an interest in Inclusive Design. These include the Commission for Architecture and the Built Environment (CABE) and the Centre for Accessible Environments (CAE) who have authority in this area. David is the author of several access guides for the Employer’s Forum on Disability (EFD) and the Corporation of London Designing an Inclusive City. Of particular interest is David’s development of his ‘Triple Audit’ method for evaluation access to buildings.
