Adam Thomas
Adam Thomas is the UK’s only kitchen designer who is also a wheelchair user. He has nearly 30 years’ experience of design and has been disabled since 1981.
Adam is head consultant on accessible kitchens for London’s Olympic Village 2012. He was the Designer of the Naidex Future Lifestyles House in 2008.
In 2006, he was the winner of the inaugural kitchen industry Accessible Kitchen Designer Award.
Adam worked for many years in mainstream design before becoming involved in campaigning for the legislation that became the Disability Discrimination Act. He worked with organisations in the private, public and voluntary sectors on the law and has also been involved in many working and advisory groups.
Adam is co-author of the National Housing Federation’s ‘Standards and Quality in Development: ‘A Good Practice Guide’ and the London Development Agency’s ‘Private Sector Wheelchair Housing Design Guide’ for the Mayor of London’s Housing Strategy.
